Specialty Care
24 Hour Care
Around-the-clock support at home, staffed in shifts so there is always an alert caregiver awake and on duty.
Two ways to staff continuous care
Shift care uses two or three caregivers rotating through a 24-hour period, each fully awake and working. Live-in care places one caregiver in the home with a defined sleep period.
Shift care costs more and is necessary when someone needs help during the night, wanders, or cannot be left unsupervised. Live-in care suits people who sleep through the night reliably and mainly need a presence.
When families choose it
- Advanced dementia with night wandering
- High fall risk with a history of falls
- After a hospitalization, as a temporary bridge
- End-of-life care at home
- As a deliberate alternative to a facility
Comparing it to a facility
Round-the-clock care at home is a real expense, and for some families a facility is the right answer. But the comparison is rarely as lopsided as people assume once memory-care rates are included, and staying home means keeping one's own bed, routine, neighbourhood, and pets. We will walk through the numbers with you honestly, including when we are not the cheaper option.
